On November 9th, PATH officially launched a capital fundraising campaign to raise $11.4 million from private sources to help build another 34 miles of greenway trails in Georgia. The three year campaign focuses primarily on extending existing trails that are consistent with our twenty year vision to make Atlanta the most trail connected city in the U.S.
A major component of the 2012 campaign is a trail along Georgia 400 from the Atlanta BeltLine near Piedmont Road and Peachtree Creek to Loridans Drive, just south of the Georgia 400 toll booth. Additionally, PATH plans trails through downtown into Centennial Park, and extensions to the Arabia Mountain/South River trails through Panola Mountain State Park to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit.
PATH has already partnered with government agencies to secure $18 million in public funding for the trails in this campaign. An additional $7 million is being sought to finish the public portion of the funding. PATH will utilize existing public-private partnerships to develop many of the new projects. New partnerships have been negotiated with Henry County and the City of Woodbine Georgia in anticipation of building trails in these jurisdictions during the campaign.
PATH consultants have been busy planning and designing many of the new projects to prepare them for construction during 2012. PATH will begin new trails in Conyers, Panola Mountain State Park, and on St. Simons Island early next year. Gaps in the Stone Mountain Trail near I-285 and in downtown Atlanta should follow later in the year. A stylized map of the twenty year vision and the trails proposed for the next three years is presented on the following page. With help from our great public partners and your donations to PATH, we plan to make Atlanta a trail user’s mecca very soon.CapitalCampaignMAP2011News
